Sonam Kapoor got married to her boyfriend Anand Ahuja in Mumbai on Tuesday in a traditional ceremony. Her wedding was attended by almost entire who’s who of Bollywood. Notable among those who attended her wedding included Amitabh Bachchan, son Abhishek and daughter Shweta, Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor with son Taimur, Karisma Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Jacquline Fernandez, Swara Bhasker, Javed Akhtar, designer Masaba Gupta, Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and elder son Junaid.
While Sonam and Ahuja looked picture perfect and their wedding photos made every bachelor envious of them, their celebration was soon marred by nasty online trolling by right-wing bigots. The trolls began to target the bride with hateful messages with many calling her anti-Hindus.
Their attack was aimed at Sonam for her stand against the gruesome gang-rape and murder of the 8-year-old child in Kathua. Sonam was one of those top Bollywood artists, who had joined the viral campaign to announce that the act by the Hindutva zealots inside a ‘Devi’-sthaan temple had shamed every Indian.
As part of the campaign, several Bollywood artists including Sonam, Kareena, Huma Qureshi, Badshah, Vishal Dadlani and Shruti Seth, had posted their photos with placardson Twitter saying, “I am Hindustan.I am Ashamed. #JusticeForAasifa. 8 years old. Gangraped. Murdered. In ‘Devi’-sthaan temple. #Kathua”
On Tuesday, the Veer Di Wedding actor also faced trolling for her decision to have her marriage ceremony conducted in accordance with the Sikh rituals and not Hindu custom.
Not everyone was upset with Sonam’s wedding ceremony being carried out according to Sikk rituals. There were many who congratulated the actor and found the controversy abhorring
