Adolf Kaegi (* September 30 1849 in Bauma , † 14 February 1923 in Rüschlikon ) was a Swiss Indologist and Hellenist .


Adolf Kaegi studied ancient languages ​​and Indology, he said one focus of his work to the study of Greek and Sanskrit laid. His academic teachers included Rudolf von Roth and Karl Geldner . 1875 Kaegi was claimed and completed his PhD Lecturer in Old Indic and put in 1878 a study on the song collection Rig Veda before.

In 1883 he was appointed extraordinary professor of comparative philology, with particular regard to Old Indic and Greek at 1,856 newly established chair of comparative philology at the University of Zurich under Heinrich Schweizer-Sidler selected. In his ten years as Associate Professor Kaegi be dealt especially with the ancient Greeks. He also wrote a Greek-German dictionary and school exercise books for school use. Towards the end of his research Kaegi turned increasingly to Indology. In addition, he served as chairman of the Swiss Idiotikon active. Adolf Kaegi died after a long and serious illness on February 14, 1923 at the age of 72 years in Switzerland.
