A British opposition peer has accused the Indian government of bringing fake charges against Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik during a debate in the House of Lords about human rights in Kashmir. On the subject of Malik, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, minister for South Asia, representing the British government at the debate, said the UK was monitoring his trial closely but since he has been charged under Indian law, “we cannot intervene in the independent judicial process of India directly”. On the other hand, British Sikh Conservative peer Lord Ranger asked whether Hussain knew that two Sikh traders were murdered last week in Pakistan’s Peshawar “because of their religion”.“I would like to ask who is supplying arms to the terrorists in Kashmir, who is training them and who is encouraging them to create a disruption in paradise? Kashmir was people of different faiths living in harmony until 1947,” Ranger said.
