Northern India, including its capital Delhi, is reeling under a fierce heatwave with temperatures soaring above 45C over the weekend.
Authorities have closed some schools and the central bank has warned the heat could pose a risk to food inflation.
The searing temperatures come as India holds its general election, the results of which will be declared on 4 June.
However, the extreme weather is disrupting polls turnout, with numbers impacted and election authorities extending the voting window.
