Professor Chris Whitty made the dire warning at today's Downing Street press briefing.
This came the UK's Covid-19 death toll passed 18,000 after a further 763 victims died in 24 hours.
Earlier, new Labour leader Keir Starmer grilled the Government on their poor PPE record at his first PMQs today.
This morning it was estimated that the UK's coronavirus death toll could be more than double the official figure - with more than 40,000 killed by the virus.
