An Afghan asylum seeker, Ahmad Mulakhil (23), has been found guilty of abducting and raping a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton on 22 July. A jury at Warwick Crown Court convicted him of rape, abduction, sexual assault, and making an indecent video.
A second man, Mohammad Kabir (24), was found not guilty of the charges against him.
The trial heard the victim’s evidence, including that Mulakhil laughed during the attack. The case also sparked protests locally and led to changes in guidance on whether police should release suspects’ nationality and immigration status in high-profile cases. Police praised the girl’s bravery, and the Home Office said it wants to make it easier to remove foreign criminals.
