Henry Nowak lay dying in a Southampton street with his wrists cuffed after police believed the false claims of his attacker, Vickrum Digwa, who said the 18-year-old had racially abused him.
Mr Digwa had stabbed the finance student five times with an eight-inch ceremonial knife.
Despite Mr Nowak’s pleas for help as he struggled to breathe, officers arrested him instead, and he died less than an hour later.
