Protest erupted in several cities of Pakistan over former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest from outside the Islamabad High Court on May 09. Hundreds of supporters took to the streets of Pak in several cities to protest as his party called for nationwide protests. Protests are underway in cities, including Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi, Gilgit, Karak, as per official Twitter handle of PTI. Protesters were seen carrying batons, shouting slogans, and setting trucks on fire. Taking to Twitter, PTI invoked its supporters and said, “Pakistan, its your time now. It’s now or never opportunity”. Pakistan’s anti-corruption agency arrested Khan which threatens fresh turmoil in the nuclear-armed country. Previous attempts to arrest Khan from his Lahore home resulted in heavy clashes between his supporters and law enforcement personnel. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has called on supporters to “shut down Pakistan”. Section 144 has been imposed in Islamabad to maintain law and order in the city. Indian Defence forces keeping a close watch on the situation in Pakistan, in view of the developments there.
