A 56-year-old grandmother alleges she was struck in the face with a taser by a police officer at Manchester Airport, just moments after he kicked her motionless son, according to the family’s lawyer.
Shameem Akhtar feared both her sons, Fahir Amaaz, 19, and Muhammad Amaad, 25, had been "killed" by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) after officers allegedly tasered and knelt on them, said the family's solicitor, Aamer Anwar.
At a press conference in Manchester, Mr. Anwar revealed that the confrontation was sparked by an "alleged tirade of racist abuse" from a male airline passenger.
Protests erupted in Rochdale and Manchester city centre after video footage of the shocking incident during the 23 July arrest at the airport circulated on social media.
