EastEnders is reportedly set to introduce its first Muslim lesbian in the coming weeks, as Iqra Ahmed's secret text messages are revealed.

A source told The Sun that the character will come out after Adam Bateman discovers her messages to other woman, but it remains to be seen whether her sexuality is accepted by her family.

This revelation comes nine years after devout Muslim Syed Masood faced being ostracised by his family when he fell in love with Christian Clarke.

A representative for EastEnders declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.

EastEnders has been hinting that Iqra (played by Priya Davdra) had something to hide for several weeks, as she desperately tried to conceal the string of mysterious messages.

When Adam (Stephen Rahman-Hughes) decides to use the texts to blackmail her, it seems Iqra will finally come clean and reveal she is gay.

Fans were delighted when EastEnders aired a kiss between Tiffany Butcher and Bernadette Taylor in November 2018, after campaigning for weeks that their friendship should transform into romance.

The soap courted controversy in 2010 when Muslim Syed started a passionate affair with openly Christian, and struggled to choose between their love and his devout religion.

In an attempt to please his family, Syed went through with a sham marriage to Amira Shah, but eventually revealed the truth and was disowned from the family.

Eventually Syed managed to rebuild bridges with the Masoods and decided to make his relationship with Christian official through a civil partnership, and the couple left Walford together in 2012.

It remains to be seen whether Iqra is accepted by her family after revealing her sexuality, and whether Adam succeeds in using her secret as blackmail.
