Chhapaak has failed to create a storm at the box office

Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak was one of the highly anticipated films of 2020. A lot of people were looking forward to the Meghna Gulzar directorial because Deepika was returning to the big screen after two years of Padmaavat. With talented actors like Deepika and Vikrant Massey on-board and a strong subject, people expected the movie to work wonders. Contrary to everyone's expectations, Chhapaak (based on the life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal), has failed to create a storm at the box office. This film clashed with Ajay Devgn and Kajol's Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior on January 10 and this could one of the many reasons why Chhapaak is performing poorly at the box office

Talking about the film's box office collection, it managed to earn only Rs. 2.50 crore approximately on Wednesday and the total BO of Chhapaak now stands at Rs 26.42 crore. If various trade experts are to be believed, Chhapaak isn't performing well because of Deepika's visit to JNU, which had created a stir on the internet. Days before the release of her film, Deepika Padukone had paid a visit to JNU to stand in solidarity of the students. However, her brave did not go down well with many people. And they made #BoycottChhapaak trend on Twitter.

Chhapaak box office collection day 6 early estimates: Deepika Padukone starrer remains steady but on a lower side

In fact, DP's visit could probably affect her in terms of her brand endorsements. "Some brands have said they are reducing the visibility of ads featuring her in the short term, celebrity managers say future endorsement deals are expected to see clauses factoring in the risks involved with celebrities taking political stands that might anger administrations inclined to be vengeful," a source informed Economic Times.

On the work front, Deepika Padukone will be next seen in Kabir Khan's '83. The film is based on Indian cricket team's 1983 world cup win and features Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev. It is scheduled to release on April 10 and we hope it enjoys a good run at the box office.
