India tries to isolate Pakistan and ends up getting isolated by the IOC

India seems to be in a pickle after it denied a three-member Pakistani team visas to take part in the shooting world cup in Delhi and may be staring at international isolation.
According to a report, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that it has suspended talks with the Indian government and the country’s Olympic Association (IOA) after it did not grant visa to a team of Pakistani shooters to take part in the Shooting World Cup.
The IOC stated that India had violated rules of ‘non-discrimination’ by refusing visas to the Pakistani team, which comprised of two shooters and a manager.
The IOC said that it had suspended all talks with the Indian government on hosting future sporting events in the country due to its act which violated the principles of non-discrimination.
The IOC has also ‘recommended’ that all sports federations neither award nor hold sports events in India until the government does not provide written assurances that it would not discriminate against participants of any country.
The Pakistani team was supposed to arrive in New Delhi for the Shooting World Cup on Wednesday.
However, the Pakistani team withdrew after they were not granted visas. The government has not issued an official statement in this regard but the International Shooting Sport Federation and National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) have said that the visas were not granted to the Pakistani team in light of the recent Pulwama attack.
Rule 44 of the Olympic Charter states that the National Olympic Committees (in this case, the IOA) ‘must… ensure that no one has been excluded for racial, religious or political reasons or by reason of other forms of discrimination.’
The Shooting World Cup was also a qualifying event for the Tokyo Olympics to be held next.
