The rising tensions between Canada and India over the death of Sikh nationalist Hardeep Singh Nijjar is “very worrying”, says former Howard government minister Peter McGauran.
It comes as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accuses India of being involved in the murder of the Sikh leader in Vancouver.
“So if he’s not 100 per cent sure that it’s the Indian Secret Service then he should not even be raising it,” Mr McGauran told Sky News Australia.
“India is critical to the West’s security and economic interest.
“It’s going to drag the US and Australia, close allies through the Quad, of India.”
