Nurse in her 20s ‘kills herself’ at London hospital where eight coronavirus patients have died

A NURSE in her 20s at a hospital treating coronavirus patients is thought to have taken her own life at work.

The woman is believed to have been working in an intensive care unit (ICU) at King's College Hospital in London, where eight people have died from Covid-19.

She was found unresponsive at the hospital before police were called at 5.36pm on Monday.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "The patient was treated and later died in hospital. The death is not being treated as suspicious."

ICUs are used to care for people with serious and life-threatening conditions, including those on life support.

King's College Hospital said: "A member of staff was found unresponsive at the hospital on Monday. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, they sadly died.

"We are offering support to their family at this difficult time and would ask that their privacy is respected."

On Tuesday, it was revealed the number of coronavirus dead in the UK had reached 422 - up from 335 the day before and the largest day-on-day increase in the number of deaths since the outbreak began.

So far, 90,436 people have checked for the killer bug, with 8,077 now testing positive, a rise of 1,427 on just one day.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock last night announced a recruitment drive for 250,000 Good Samaritans to help drop off shopping and vital medication to 1.5 million patients asked to "shield" at home for the next 12 weeks.
