A representative of Belfast Islamic Centre has spoken out after two nights of anti-immigration violence shook Northern Ireland.

Kashif Akram said many members of Belfast's ethnic minority communities are now living in fear, with distress levels running high as families seek reassurance following unrest across the city. He described the situation as the worst he has witnessed in his 44 years living in Northern Ireland.

The Islamic Centre has been working closely with police and has temporarily adjusted opening hours due to security concerns. Despite the tensions, Akram stressed that many local residents have shown support and solidarity, arguing that those spreading hatred represent only a small minority.

The comments come after riots erupted following a knife attack in Belfast, leading to widespread disorder, police operations and growing political concern.
