Turkish voters delivered a resounding defeat to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's party in local elections held over the weekend. Turkiye's main opposition party won more than 37% of the votes against Erdogan's 35%. They also swept major Turkish cities including Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. The mayor of Istanbul, who is touted as a possible challenger to Erdogan, declared an end to "one-man rule" after the election victory.
